Pioneer Transcription Services Interview

By Interviewer at 06/22/09 08:30

Name of your website?

Pioneer Transcription Services

Your name?

Deborah Devitt

Your Location (city, etc)

Penn Valley

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Pioneer Transcription Services has been providing transcription services to businesses and individuals since 1990. My website highlights the different types of transcription services we currently offer.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I have been on the internet since its earliest days. I had a very short-lived success with my first website with Google. It lasted about a week, but I still have clients that I received from that short exposure at the top. Last August I launched a newer, more detailed website to give potential clients a better understanding of the different transcription services we offer.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

My first website was http://pweb.jps.net/~devitt/ for Devitt's Transcription Services. I launched it, wow, a long time ago! Maybe 1997? It's very dated looking now.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

We live on Pioneer Way and we named our company Pioneer Support Services to incorporate both my transcription service and my husband's drafting service.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

Well, we actually offer a little history about our company on our home page. We also offer so many different types of transcription that I think a lot of companies don't offer, or at least don't mention on their websites.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

Our eventual goal for the website is to just grow it and let the world at large know about our services.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

I probably spend more time than money on the website. I try to write articles, submit to directories, use social networking to get our name out there as much as possible.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

More advertising in trade publications!

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

For sure!

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Being bombarded by too many applicants at once. We received over 500 applications over a two-day period awhile back when we got mentioned on a particular site.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Finding qualified, consistently accurate, reliable transcriptionists to work with us. We really want only the best. Also, finding the time to do the marketing necessary to grow a business.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Probably Twitter and referrals.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

It's a lot more work than I could have ever imagined.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Since last August. I plan to keep it for as long as I possibly can.

What is your website address?
