For varying levels of complexity, Uruguay has a large infrastructure of public as well of private services.
Through a group of institutions, medical care is provided and these institutions all have different characteristics and objectives as well as an almost non existent degree of coordination, complementarity and also regionalization.
In some areas there is an oversight of services, but the majority are of those that are without coverage. There are, altogether, simply five institutions that are within the public health subsystem.
