Last Sunday, a group of cyclist all around the Philippines was joined by international cycling organizations and individuals from all around the world for the Tour of Hope 2009. The cycling tour aimed to raise awareness against Cervical Cancer. It started yesterday, May 24 and will last until May 28 and will cover distances from Muntinlupa City to Camarines Sur in Bicol.
The Tour of Hope 2009 is a joint project of Bravehearts, CECAP and the CIF (Cancer Inst. Foundation Inc). It is also supported by companies and organizations like the GlaxoSmithKline Philippines, Campaigns PR Inc., Team David’s Salon, Gold’s Gym, Crocs, Maldita,, Gatorade, Wings Photography Inc., Personifi, Philam Life Insurance, Destiny Cable, Metro Magazine, Action and Fitness Magazine, Health Today, Manila Bulletin, Business World, Mabolo Flowers, Nikon, and Creative Juice.
Cervical Cancer is one of the reasons why millions of women die every year. The deadly cancer is transmitted to women by infected males. The Human Papillomavirus (HPV), is the cancer's basic form. Even though there are already two available vaccines for the two strains of this deadly cancer, it still is necessary to raise awareness against it.
Cervical Cancer is the 5th deadliest cancer all around the world in women. It is also the cfause of about 300,000 death per year.
