Even though the way to a person's finding may be wrong, this does not mean that their findings should be ruled out, or that they should be significantly penalized for their approach.
Why would a person find out something that would be considered as a thing that is quite valuable to human sanctity, yet to be punished simply for the way that the findings had been conducted.
Only if the approach had been inhumane is when one should be penalized, still, I think that the penalties exists simply in order to keep regular citizens at bay, nonetheless.
