Identities can be stolen for the sake of cash, if your credit card or social security would be breached. An article from Full Disclosure identifies that there is also identity theft or fraud happening inside the doors of hospitals and medical facilities.
This is called medical identity theft, which is a large part of all identity frauds in US, according to a report by Ponemon Institute. Six percent of the frauds falls in this category.
Family members and close family friends were the usual thieves of these medical identity. More on this, on the link below.
