A resourceful and informative magazine based medical website. The Website is an online resource not just for medical students and doctors but also for general readers who are interested in their Health , Disease and Conditions and Medical aspects of problems, to create an aware and healthier community. Medchrome has ample for resources and information for Students searching for opportunity in Medical fields like MBBS, USMLE, Master or PG along with College information and list, Curriculum,Past questions and Exam preparation Tips.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I was once a Blogger, in blogspot and wordpress. I landed into free hosting which gave me an idea to host own Medical website in Nepal as Nepal has no true Medical site besides all health site and feed site. So we 10 doctors from NMCTH planned and launched the site.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
2007 It was a blog nmcgroups.blogspot.com
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Chrome means color and Chrome is a popular browser from Google. So this hit an idea for Medchrome:- Colors in medicine ( field)
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
It is first site in Nepal for Medical students,doctors and Public and students interested in Medical field, besides other site which targets general population. It allows anyone to participate in its events.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
We want Medchrome to be the ultimate medical site of Nepal first. We want to add a forum section and Ask a Doctor section to it as soon as we have fund. We are not in plan to sell it as along as we can devote time for it.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Its simply your will power. We have run from 1200 viewers per month to 12000 viewers with 20000+ page views in just 3 months. Time is important for success.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would Add a Forum section. I would put paid articles from Best doctors in Nepal. I would Hire a good Doctor in " ask your Doctor " section for people. and involve more people to promote public health. Medical section will also be improved
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
That's one problem. Currently we are okay, but if site grows beyond our capacity we will need to move to a dedicated server that costs a lot. So we are looking for sponsors, specially from Pharmaceuticals,Medical book shops, Medical equipment shop, clinics and other website. We will promote each other this way.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Unexpected cost of Site maintainance, SEO and server management problems.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Moving to a Dedicated server is the biggest challenge for now. Other is Article theft, we are facing. 35,000 words have been copied from our quality articles.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Quality Posts- articles Facebook page SEO
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It is living up to our expectations.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
1 year this October. It will continue forever, now. We can't afford to lose what we have started.
